Buying and merging non-Battle.net WOW accounts? Is it safe?

Does anyone have some insight or experience they can share about how to safely purchase a non-battle.net account and merge it to a main account?

I have done this in the past shortly after they started forcing the merges. I purchased an unmerged account and merged it to mine without problem. However, since then I have heard some horror stories about people getting their main accounts banned right after they merge an older non-battle.net account to theirs.

Has anyone done this recently with success? Also, where would be a reliable site to purchase non-battle.net accounts from?

Yes, it works fine. You won't be banned.


accountsbay has some, but I've had trouble with them sometimes.

A good way to ensure your main accounts safety, is when you buy the unmerged account, make a NEW battle.net, with complete same information as your battle.net, and put it on that. Then, Character transfer it from that battle.net, to yours, on the account of your pleasing. And any other characters you want on the account. Should anything happen, they will NOT do anything (Blizz), as they cannot verify whether or not it was you or the OO whom made the transaction.

I have done this numerous times since 09, and have never had problems with it.

Remember, worst comes to worst, tell Blizz " I did not have access to my account, and it was compromised, and did not do any of that". Worst comes to worst, you fill out an account recovery of YOUR account.

I think everyone has had problems with accountsbay which is owned by thsale. They have 231+ new topic complaints alone on complaintsboard alone.

I'm currently waiting for my dispute to give me my money back from them.

No way in hell I'm paying for them giving me the wrong account with nothing on it I wanted, and then claiming they never got the money and to send more.

merging to a new battle.net in my name and transferring to my main battle.net and wow account is a great idea!

I guess I do have 1 more question though.

Some of the sites I see offering non battle.net accounts say "Custom Made - Non Battle.Net: Merge To Your Existing Account" I've seen this in various wording on a few sites now. What do they mean by "Custom Made?" Isn't he only way to have a non-battle.net account to have created it before Nov. 2009, and not have logged into it since then?
