It works by giving limited access to the buyer until all the installments are paid. In case of Gaijin accounts, this can be done by settings the middleman's phone number on the account. This would prevent the buyer from taking control of the account, while still allowing them to freely play on it. Once all the installments are paid, the MM removes his number from the account and buyer can take control.
