Earlier today, I was talking to Alex about making the scammers section of the forums sort of my niche. I was browsing through the threads and figured I haven't done a good scam bust for a while. I chose this thread because it truly fit the stereotypical "this guy scammed me help" sort of situation. I contacted some independent contractors who helped me find out everything I needed about this guy and went to work.

The scammer in question had accounts on scamming websites and seemed to be sort of experienced at what he did. In this case, he used a stolen paypal to purchase an account off of an innocent seller. The money was soon recalled, and the seller was SOL.

I spoke to the scammer "Davy" on the phone. I recorded the conversation, but it wasn't SUPER interesting. He was admitting to his scams, and he agreed to do what I told him to do. What did I tell him to do? I told him to return all of the accounts that he stole, and I told him to make a public apology to the Markee Dragon community via YouTube. Said video can be seen below -

Here is the transcript for this video. Some of the things he said towards the end are inside jokes that you might not all understand.

His friend scammed multiple users on Markee Dragon as well. I made him apologize as well -

The kids returned everything they stole, and provided good information on bigger targets. Needless to say, they are still in deep trouble with paypal (as the owner of that paypal may still want to press charges), but I'm done with them. I am now going to go after the people that actually steal these paypal accounts to sell them. More on that later. I hope you all enjoy the videos!

Hope they actually learned their lesson, I'm forever grateful for the help and I'm glad he decided to do the right thing and give my account back to me
 
Very amusing.

They are lucky you took the approach you did, rather than just turning their info over to the victim's lawyer and the scammer's local law enforcement.

I wonder how many of these kids getting busted and publicly embarrassed with threat of legal or criminal repercussions it will take before they wisen up, and realize that a few hundred or few thousand dollars are not worth having a criminal record and all the other headaches you run the risk of having to deal with by committing ILLEGAL acts.

BIG Business. Hacked paypal accounts can be bought for next to nothing in the right market. Full identities can be had for under $5. I think once you start looking that a lot of Russians will be involved.

While you indulge yourself in pessimism, I'll sit here knowing that I got two scammers to return what they stole and apologize to the public. Of course scammers will never die, but at least I'm doing something to lessen the herd a bit. What have you done today that may benefit this community? People like you who make assumptions about who others are in real life based on a forum post on the internet make me chuckle. Please go sulk elsewhere Charlie Brown.

Wow,amazing job.While the above poster might not agree which his opinion I think it was 100% worth doing what he did even if he foudn out they were children in the end.Hopefully they learned something out of it because being caught here was prolly the best thing to happen to them.

What would have been next for them if they thought they could always get away?
 
I have to be in the "this is the least that could have happened to them" crowd. They're not being harassed like some scammers are on other forums. This is akin to the scared straight program, hopefully this will teach them to think about their actions in not just scamming, but at all times when they're about to do something illegal.

I would go as far as saying that this is letting them off way too easy. I personally think that they at the very least should have had their parents notified of their activities.

As a parent I would DEFINITELY want to know if my child was involved in illegal activities, especially since as minors their parents are ultimately responsible for their actions, and the legal or criminal ramifications of being involved in defrauding people with stolen paypal accounts could be very severe.

While I would hope they would appreciate your leniency in the situation and learn from it, if they lacked the morals, maturity, and common sense to realize what they where doing was petty, pathetic, and illegal... they probably don't have the maturity it would take to learn from the situation and be sure not to repeat it.

However I hope for their sake that they take this as a lesson, or their next step very well may be juvenile correction, thousands of dollars in fines, or worse.

Excellent work, it's nice to see someone taking these guys down. Hopefully with continued efforts a good portion of the scammers will just stop. Of course it's nearly impossible to stop them all but would be nice to be able to buy and sell accounts without dealing with a scammer every time.

Lol that's exactly what I was thinking. They were clearly reading something on their monitors that they scribbled down in less than 10 minutes. I think it would have to have alot more emotion for me to believe they truely were sorry for their actions.

As a kid who is probably around the same age as the ones in these videos, I just can't understand how I myself could scam someone. I think I would be scared before I even started talking to the person. And then to go a level further and to start using stolen paypal accounts is astronomically more than I would have thought anyone my age would go for a world of warcraft account.

Hopefully people on this forum do respect me as a legitimate trader as I have taken the necessary steps to verify myself as a trustworthy person.

This is for sure true, this is nothing compared to the scam baits over at the 419 eater. Which can extend to making a scammer get a tattoo.

Anyways, this is deffinately one of the best scam baits on this forum, and deffinately made me laugh so hard I nearly shot rootbeer on the keyboard (what can I say, i'm not 21 and I like rootbeer)
 
from now on, don't make them just read something. Make them come up with something themselves. Just give them a limit like has to be at least 100 words or something.

The real humor is listening to the 15 year olds try to apologize in their own words.
