Hey epicnpc, im currently mining on my 970 since im probably buying a new gpu in a few months.

I also am interested in turning one of my spare rigs into a mining machine. I have been looking at some rx 400s and 500s and they all sell for like 400$ above msrp. Are miners really that crazy to buy them?
There are also a bunch of shady af sellers on ebay doing like used 470s for like 200$.

Miners, what cards (asics?) do you use and how much did you pay for them?
 
470/480/570/580

Currently pretty much unobtainable. :(
And other models from those series 450/460/550/560 perform 2 to 2.5 times worse. :(

gtx 1070 has same mining performance but much more expensive.
 
Don't buy preowned cards, they're on sale for a reason.

Mining would be a lot more efficient if it was in the winter since you can heat a single room. I honestly wouldn't bother with buying a card now since they're so expensive.
 
I've got a number of rx 480's both 4gb and 8gb cards for sale as well some full rigs as I'm downsizing a bit. Cards are $400-425 each OBO and rigs you can contact me for more info.
 
R9 290 and 290x are also quite good. But I guess it's even harder to get one of those.

But let us know when u've made a decision. =)

If you cannot get rx470,rx480 or the price is crazy, then a good option is gtx 1060 (6gb). Most profitable card from the 10x series and has a really low energy consumption, especially with underclocking.
With gtx 1060 you can get about 24Mh/s after overlocking in Ethereum.


Don't buy graphic with VRAM "Micron", they have a less efficiency = less Mh/s, only samsung.

if you want to mine ETH - AMD Sapphire RX480 Nitro 8GB or NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB. Depends completely on your price for electricity in your region.
Post how much money you wanna spend and what power cost you have.
 
It really depends on your electricity costs, I'm mining on some 6gb gtx 1060s that I got cheap and it's alright.
 
amd will be great considering from their price versus ability on mining.
try to get the one for above mainstream, you can check their type from their code for example 470 , where :

• 4 was for their chipset / series , usually they are up each year.
• 7 was for their revision (this is what they said) , althought i believe they made it 3 version to cover all of pc user from starter,mainstream,enthusiast, extreme (6-9 for older and rx series , 3-x for r5-r7 series)
• and the last number either 1 digit or 2 digit are their value starting from basic reference design Performance for that series which is 0 or 00, 9-90 will the extreme one.

the cons for amd is, they are using much more power to run as well as their heat problem usually far heater than nvdia, also yes most brand are trying to sell them more pricey than they should be due to this series are popular for mining.

the problem is, i dont know how durable they are for this brand, while based on my experiences for gpu to be under 100% load for months or more, i will prefer shappire or gigabyte, most brand such as zotac/powercolor/msi will only survive a year or less perhaps.

Why mine with a GPU at a loss?
You might as well do it right. I found the most profitable is with a decent GPU and a fast internet connection.

Just use the THETA PGN Preguardian node app to mine Tfuel and then sell it on gate.io for btc.
