Good day ladies and gentlemen.

On the date of March 19, 2009, Blizzard released a new way to manage World of Warcraft accounts -- merging them with their old enterprise Battle.net system.

Blizzard Battle NET FAQ: http://www.battle.net/faq/index.html

How Battle.net account creation affects you

When you merge your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account, all of the information on your Battle.net account is now the MAIN INFORMATION for your World of Warcraft.

Let's make an example here -- If you traded account "A" for account "B". The trade is successful and all that jazz. You could then create a Battle.net account for your new account "B" and change any information pertinent to the account including the first and last name on the account.

In other words, your Battle.net account information will override the information that is on your World of Warcraft account.

What does this mean for buyers/traders/sellers?

More scams and possible hassles. I would HIGHLY recommend that everyone merge their World of Wacraft account into a Battle.net account before they trade/sell. This keeps the new owner from crying out "scam" if he or she merges the Battle.net account themselves and then recalls the funds on you.

YES IT WILL HAPPEN, so please do not be naive.

If a user is able to create a Battle.net account for a World of Warcraft that he/she bought/traded for, they are able to put ANY name on the account that they want. This means that recalling the account would be impossible (I have yet to here otherwise as of yet) as your name or the previous name on the account would no longer be the name on the account.

Should I merge multiple World of Warcraft accounts into one Battle.net account?

The short answer -- NO. Absolutely not. We have no idea what the intentions of this new "pet" project is for Blizzard as of yet. I currently have a good friend testing the system as he just merge two "dead" accounts together -- both of the accounts had different names on the accounts. I will keep everyone in the loop about what happens to his accounts.

In the meantime, PLEASE refrain from combining ANY World of Warcraft accounts under the same Battle.net account UNLESS you are the Original Owner (i.e -- your actual real life first and last name is under the accounts) of both accounts.

Also, please note that after you have merged a World of Warcraft account into a Battle.net account, the process CANNOT be revered. It is final and that is that.

--------------------------------------------------------

I believe that this covers the very basics for the time being. I will be sure to add more information to this post as it becomes necessary.

Also, if you have anything you would like for me to add, please let me know and I will figure out how to fit it in.

Thanks and safe/happy trading/selling/buying to you all!

thanks knucklehead! ill add this to my guides collection

I think my experience is important to share with all.

I recently merged 3 wow accounts into 1 battle.net account.

All three accounts have different first and last names. Only one account had my personal information and I was able to transfer characters from the other two accounts into my main account.

So just to show an example:

Account A: my personal information, first, last, sqa, etc.

Account B: only have login, password and sqa

Account C: only have login and password (no sqa)

**After merging all 3 wow accounts into one battle.net account, I was able to transfer a character from Account B and C into account A. I'll say it again, NO information matched on any of the three accounts.

The paid character transfer still had to be done through WOW account management. I was never asked too provide an sqa.

Thank you. Yes this is true. You can now transfer characters between accounts that you merge together even if they have different names on them!

REMEMBER THOUGH -- Once you merge accounts, you CANNOT unmerge them!

i called the blizzard to confirm the above information and its accurate.

i would recommend not to merge ANY accounts for
a) security reasons
b) reselling or chain trading - once you have merged them, you are more or less well... stuck.

its just not worth the hassle!

You can unmerge wow accounts with battle.net accounts by calling account management and using your old details. There's also several posts by blues on the official wow forums stating this as well.

Just got off of the phone with Blizzard and this is true. I am not sure for how long you will be able to do this, but for the time being it is completely possible.

While I am very intrigued with this possibility I am still VERY concerned about what they may eventually do with this. Could it be possible that they will let you merge WoW accounts into one Battle.net account now (with separate last names) but later act on that info? I have not merged accounts yet (have several) and not sure I will until this has some serious run-time on it.

For reference, this is the comment (from their FAQ) that has me concerned about doing this:

"Q: My family plays World of Warcraft together. Should we create a single Battle.net account for all of our World of Warcraft accounts?
A: No. Sharing access to a World of Warcraft account, other than by a parent or guardian with a single minor, is a violation of World of Warcraft’s Terms of Use. You should create a separate Battle.net account for each family member’s World of Warcraft account. In addition, future Battle.net features will make it beneficial for players to have the Battle.net account they use associated with their own online identity. Creating separate accounts for you and your family ensures you will be able to take advantage of these features when they are introduced later on."

I will be making separate Battle.net accounts for each I think.

Ditto. BTW, King, where in Chandler do you live? I used to live off of Ray and the 101. Right where that Albertsons is on Ray and McClintock!

For the time being you should transform your single World of Warcraft account into a Battle.net account. But you should not merge multiple accounts with different info, we do not currently know enough about Blizzards plans for the system, and it is possible (as mentioned above) that Blizzard will eventually work their way through accounts and take action on one with multiple info.

Their local IP database is a bit off it seems as I'm up in North Scottsdale. Pima and the 101 or thereabouts.

Jesus! Right next to my old home. I went to middle school at Desert Canyon -- graduated there in 2000. Would have went to Desert Mountain if I would have stayed in Phoenix.

My home was on 96th street and Frank Llyod Wright. I miss it so bad!

Well to "make sense" for the idiot above .Acutally Just read the forums.

mitchrapp, should you buy an associated account or multiple accounts, there will be a massive amount of work for the owner to unassociated them without giving you the information for all three.

so if you think about it, its more of an advantage for you

Right, thanks for the info.
So basically if I only have one WoW account, and I merged my battle.net account with it, I have nothing to worry about? Since I don't have multiple accounts.
(If I sold my account in the future)

ok... so let me get this straight (sorry a bit confused here)

Just say.. i got given an account by a friend/family member.. blah blah who ever, and i had no info to that account besides user/password THATS ALL! and i merge that with a battle.net account what happens, do i gain full controll over the account? or does the email become the username and stuff? or do i gain full controll and remake the account sorta?

once you have linked multiple accounts to a battlenet, then the original account should have all control.

though i could personally not recommend that you do this as it becomes really really difficult to resale or trade in future as once you sell it, you cannot unbind it.

Ok, im back
laugh.gif
BUT with a little more Infomation. I recently merged my account with a battle.net account, now before we get into details This account i have was recently my friends who passed away in a car accident, Geting back to the point i merged that account, now i had NO Infomation to the account besides User/pass, no email acess/sqa oh i did have first/last name, but thats about it.

Account A: Only user/pass first name / last name, no email access nor did i have Sq/a.

Account A: Was then merged with a Battle.net account, ALL Infomation that was prevously on the account was wiped so basicly the name/last name / email.

How ever, im not sure if the SQ/A still stays as old one, and how you recover an account after merging it with a battle.net account, well if somone finds out just hit me up here or aim.. but thats all, sorry if this didnt make sence but i tryed my best, sorta hard to explain ><

lets say my wow account name is Jacob Sithead and my battle.net account is Jacob Dickhead, wat name do i use for the new account i want to xfer a character to

Does anyone know; if two accounts are merged with battle.net, is it possible for both accounts to log into World of Warcraft at the same time? Or are they still considered seperate and can be both played at the same time??

You cannot phone Blizzard anymore to disassociate your world of warcraft account with a battle.net account. They will email you a link to a form to fill out. You need I.D. and original account name.

This is kind of weird,

I just traded B.net. for the first time.

I went to Contact and Shipping Address, I think I made a mistake in adding my real information which is on a former account. This is most definitely a way Blizzard is tracking traded/sold accounts.

The first battle.net name cannot be deleted. Only the following.

More to come?

so if i plan on selling my account and have not merged my 1 account to a bnet account yet, what should i do?
should i merge to avoid scammers?
and what are the consequences of merging, will the seller then have to use this bnet account forever under my name?

Originally Posted By: JustWantToSellPST

You cannot phone Blizzard anymore to disassociate your world of warcraft account with a battle.net account. this true?

also, the OO of the account I traded got it back for me by phoning blizz, if you have the cD keys sq/a and last name you don't have to fax in your ID, or atleast I didn't, also if you do get scammed by trading your bnet account you can call blizzard to change it for you

So, if you have an account you got from a trade
lets say its reasonable so you have username/pass, first/last name, sq/a and Email.

you can make a battle.net account, with your first/last name,
incorporate this account via the username/pass alone and the first/last name will be changed to the one that is involved with the battle.net account?

Ive had to disassociate 2 accounts that were scammed. One made me use an I.D. and other did it via phone. Maybe if it had multiple recoveries in history or some trouble they make you fax in an I.D.

Is there a way of changing/recovering email address online. My payment got recalled, so I need to recover the account. Looks like I have to call blizzard.

Oh well I was lucky to be still logged in, and added the authenticator to the account. Now it cannot be easily removed.

First off, I want to thank knucklehead with the great info, but to get to the point....

Originally Posted By: mikeywallstreet

I think my experience is important to share with all.

Is there any danger in doing this? When multiple accounts are merged but all with different original information, does it compromise them?

I have an account that has different info but I'm trying to get some characters from one to another so I only have to pay 1 sub.

Also, is it possible to log into two different accounts that are on one battle.net account at the same time?

Sorry if the wording is a little confusing haha.

EDIT:

Here's a little excerpt I got from the FAQs:

Quote:

My family plays World of Warcraft together. Should we create a single Battle.net account for all of our World of Warcraft accounts?

No. Sharing access to a World of Warcraft account, other than by a parent or guardian with a single minor, is a violation of World of Warcraft's Terms of Use. I dunno if this a warning or maybe the battle.net merging does actually wipe all the original registration info (i doubt it), but it's still making me skeptical about merging both my accounts.

It's actually not and can be undone if you have all the right information. You just need to call Blizzard and have them remove it from the Bnet account.

I just merged a few accounts together and xferred some characters... If anything happens I'll fill you guys in.

So far it seems it worked for most people as long as the accounts are compromised with people trying to get them back.

So if I trade an account with no Bnet attached with another account that is not Bnet attached, should I Bnet link with the new account to prevent them from recalling it? Or would the attempt be in vain? Sorry if this is explained in the thread.

This whole thing seems like it will give honest legit traders a better feeling of security when playing an account, I know for a fact whenever I played on a traded account I would always have the fear of getting it re-called and all my efforts to retrieve it would be in vain. I like this new system.
