Long story short had multiple trauma to my left leg due to a IED explosion in Baghdad. I had my knee scoped today at the VA where they removed a screw and shaved the bone. Just my luck my ortho surgeon said that any other injury he could have helped me with but eventually ill need to have the knee replaced and I'll have to start having injections. So my question is has anyone ever had these and if so do they hurt? how many times to you have to have it done? I would have asked the doctor but the anaesthesia was just killing my stomach.

I'm not sure what kind of injections the surgeon was referring to Twizz. I've asked a friend(he's a doctor) and he says it might be a Cortisone(steroid) injection or simply a local anaesthesia. He says he cannot be sure as he'd have to actually examine your knee to know as there are many types of medications that can be injected in cases of severe trauma. He also mentioned that the steroid injection is highly effective in reducing inflammation but it shouldn't be administered too many times as it increases the rate of degeneration. It hurts initially but it's a great reliever if you do have inflammation and it reduces it effectively(reducing any pain you might have as well).
Sweet thanks I'm guessing it would be the steriod. I had a left tibal plateau fracture and have a plate and some screws in there plus the cartilage is torn up it looks like cause the gave me the pictures from the scope. Anyways thanks for the info.

Have to remember, I recieved mine while in the Military. We all know how good those doctors are. I had a total of 5, 2 in my Groin area and 3 in my shoulder. This over the span of 8 years.

Served in the military my self, got a knee injury and once the swolling had settled down i got some steroid treatment as well, not much else to do really with a semi busted knee , multiple surgeries will never make it top notch , just leave you terribly scared.
My injury wasnt from a IED tho, during an excersice in urban combat, fighting in between houses and on rooftops and i slipped and dropped 3-4 meters down and landed on the knee abit
