Account Purchasing & Sniping -- Becoming a Large Problem -- Needs Attention

I know that the reselling business and everything that surrounds it can be quite stressful. You have accounts you are trying to sell, buy, secure, and deal with scams on. That is why there is not a lot of people in this particular business. The risk is high enough without some other needless factors playing into the mix. One such factor is that of account sniping.

I am all for someone else putting in a higher offer on an account, but doing it by $5-$10 is getting a little ridiculous and it is just plain dirty. If you are going to choose to go into a bid war with another reseller or buyer, at least do it with some class. We are all trying to make money here, but some do it in a fashion that is very unbecoming.

This post is to get some insight on how to rectify this very prevalent issue. I have moved to stop posting on people's threads and started to PM them as the moment I post, another reseller comes in and just shows up my offer by $5-10.

Another idea I had was one for a custom vB4 mod (that I am willing to create), that would make Professional Seller posts private to the owner of the thread. So, in other words, only the owner of the thread, the professional seller that posts, and mods/admins would be able to see the post that the professional seller made. This would make for some discreet purchasing for us as resellers.

Again, just ideas to throw into the mix here. Feel free to add to this conversation, but PLEASE keep it constructive. I am trying to offer solutions to a growing issue/concern.

Thanks for your time.

I could not agree with this post more. While right now this website is a mix of old-school resellers and a mix of newer ones, I think there is still a basic set of rules that we should follow. This up-bidding and sniping is just becoming downright insane.

I am not going to post names or point my finger at anyone but we are all here to make an honest buck. If you quote someone on an account, just give them the price that you think it is worth. Don't just throw a low ball offer then sit in the shadows waiting to snipe someone else's offer when they make it.

While I do like the idea of a mod that would hide our posts, I don't think that would do much to fix the problem. I believe the problem rests on us sellers to operate in a classy, ethical way rather than taking cheap shots at eachother.

Just my 2 cents.

New tactic: Don't post prices.

Awesome idea IMO.

You could always ask the seller to keep you up to date on the current price. Even though I am not really part of the BTS business, but I can see how this would be annoying and I do agree that this should somehow be resolved.

the buyer reciving more cash on his sale can only be a good thing for the market reguardless if its only $5 - $10
this happens in rl and here is no diffrent imo :)

I've been on a tangled kick lately and didn't realize I had linked that.

I can't believe you seriously posted this. You and Jano are the main ones that do this underhanded ****. Used to be, me and snowy had sort of a gentlemen's agreement that we wouldn't really ever do what you are outlining there. Then guys like you, Platshop, accounts den, kcj, etc etc etc came along and the very behavior that you are condemning here THIS IS YOUR MAIN MODUS OPERANDI. Talk about a ****ing hypocrite. I can't even count the times I have contacted someone after they get a quote in chat from someone thinking that was a decent account, might go a few $ more only to find that you offered $5-50 more and already bought the account.

man dude, glass houses and stones much?

Oh yeah, and your bull**** "PERSONAL USE" threads, you must have bought 10000 "personal" accounts that got sold in the next week.

You don't get it, we don't ask people what someone else might have offered them. Also, your quotes are the lowest of anyones, so you should probably stay out of the way of this. After all, if as you noted there your quotes were the "highest" to start with, you'd get the business.

Verbatim, this is what everyone is asked when they talk to us:

If you are original owner, and the character(s) transfer is available, please link the Armory(s). After that, please include as much detailed information about the characters as you would like. This would include things like mounts, titles, professions, rare achievements, vanity items, gold, bind on account gear, etc. The more information the better! Also, please let us know if your account is currently active or not. Finally, if you have an asking price in mind please feel free to provide it. Thanks for your interest and I will be with you shortly after this information is provided.

While we are talking about "sniping" though. You have a php auction set up on a subdomain, you've been actively promoting your site which is identical to this one in pretty much every aspect. But Chad you might say, so do you. Yeah, I do, but I started it before MD ever announced he was selling. Did I know he was going to? Did I think about buying it and want to be prepared. Yeah I did. I also offered to put up half the $, and tried to get you, and other people htat would have benefited from it to go in with me. With us (tgs) doing ALL of the work and everyone benefiting just to keep the community the same. I also do not promote it much, as I offer free services that are far superior to anyone else's, and if it was common knowledge, we would simply be overworked with free requests.

Instead of doing that, which would have been the best way to keep the community together you are trying so hard to split, you created m askedcrusader. Bully for you, it looks great, your designs kick ***. However, talk about sniping. And if that wasn't enough now you are building an auction site to boot.

And here you are with the audacity to complain about someone else "sniping". Maybe I was a little freer with how I feel about things than normal, but I won't be personally around anymore and it needs said.

I like your work, and how you've done your sites, and I would say that I respect you for that. Think you are out of line here though.

These are my thoughts, and in no way reflect the official view of the game supply.

I'm glad to see you guys are keeping your discussion constructive but lets try to keep it professional at the same time. Thanks.

I appreciate the kind words Chad. This whole thing was primarily keyed towards Fancy, not anyone else. It was more of a problem that I and Platshop were having with him. He has gotten better and I think the thread has made him more aware of what is going on. I think we can all agree we are here to make money, so lets just leave it at that.

Insofar as me sniping, I may have done it on more than one occasion, but 90%+ of the time, I am not doing it intentionally. People say they have an offer on the table, but do not say who it is from. Whereas with Fancy, he knows that it is I or Platshop going after it and he deliberately goes after it. Also, a lot of time, I have had people come to me when they cannot get back in contact with people that made them offers, which happens with a lot with resellers.

I honestly mean no disrespect at all. I just was hoping to make things constructive as we attempt to get everyone on the same page. I really do appreciate you being honest Chad. Helps me to know what other people think so that I can attempt to rectify my behavior and help to make the community better in whatever way I can.

Anyways, off to the slopes here. Have a great day folks!
