So with the release of Diablo III right around the corner I can't even imagine how many hours I will spend playing it. I have been playing WoW since 2004 release and between all my characters have logged in literally hundreds of days worth of game time. Some of course was idle time but a majority of it was play time. With that being said I constantly browse these forums and as of late been seeing threads such as "What will you be consuming on release night?"
Now I'm all for splurging release night, hell, even release week but the fact of the matter is games like Diablo III, WoW, and starcraft are soooooo addicting it is almost to easy to lose track of hours, days, weeks, months, even years if not careful.
A little background - When I was in High School, 2001-2005, I was a power lifter and wrestler. I graduated at a very fit 5'8" 170lbs of muscle even though I grew up playing Blizzard games. But after graduating and when WoW first started becoming the colossus it is I played entirely to much and let myself go and gained entirely to much belly fat on my used to be fit frame and lost soo much strength, speed, muscle, flexibility, and overall attractiveness I became first ashamed and then depressed. I got over 210 lbs and and at 5'8" that's almost never pretty (lol).
Finally though I had enough and at first started light exercising and later joining a gym/martial arts academy in one where I can lift weights regularly, get good cardio exercise and have got to learn many things from a variety of different people from all walks of physical education be it power lifters, kick boxers, jujitsu dudes, All sorts. I made friends and became just as addicted with fixing my body as much as I was with WoW. Within 9 months of working out I dropped 25lbs, went from 23% body fat to 12% and stronger, faster, and overall better looking body then I ever had in my glory days.
With all that said I have personally vowed to never get that way again for any reason, especially a game ( EVEN THOUGH D3 WILL BE THE MOST EPIC GAME EVA!!!!). Although I accept responsibility fully for myself I know my story is not unique by any means. Most blizzard gamers can probably relate (especially to the letting yourself go part). Now I don't expect most people to become as obsessed as I am now with taking care of my body but I doubt anyone could disagree with a little exercise everyday and accountability with what we eat could do every gamer some good. Sooo finally......
The Challenge - For every single hour you spend daily playing Diablo III, WoW, or Starcraft you spend at least 10 minutes doing some sort of exercising. This could be anything from hardcore working out, to walking your dog, stretching, playing catch with your buddy, yard work, etc... Just anything to get your heart beating harder and counter the inevitable side affects of gaming.
I hope you all accept the challenge. You can do it!!!!
Good luck and I look forward to slaying the hordes of hell and exploring all of pandoria with you all by my side.
