How to Buy Instagram Accounts Safely

Below you'll find some step for both buyers and sellers on how to safely buy an Instagram account and prepare it for sale.

You can find our Instagram Account section here to list your IG account for sale.

Step1: Checking the Instagram account

1. Make sure the User verified the right account in the thread. It does not hurt to send the account a Direct Message and double-check if the User actually has access.

2. An Instagram account's history can be looked at on various websites, the most commonly used websites include socialblade.com and influencerdb.net on which the full history of each account can be found. If the history shows any suspicious dips or jumps, you can be sure that fake followers are involved in the growth of the account

3. Make sure that the Engagement of each post looks consistent and the comments don't look too spammy. It is extremely easy to tell which account has fake engagement.

4. Look at the earliest post of the account and see if the niche is still the same as many accounts have changed their niche and that is an easy way to see that.

5. If an account has less than 100 posts (on 100,000 followers+) Do not think that the account is legit. Most scammers use accounts that have less than 30 posts as they keep deleting all the posts and "changing their niche".

6. If the Seller is not willing to answer any questions that is a huge red flag. If the Seller seems pushy or in any way looks like they want to get rid of something real quick, do not engage. Every Seller that mentions "QUICK SELL, CHEAP I NEED THIS GONE" should be a clear red flag.

7. Sellers that will not DM you are scammers. Most Scammers these days use huge fake accounts (size 1m-2m) and DM with those, but if the Seller is making up excuses about not being able to DM you they are
not legit.

Step 2: Making payment

8. Only pay using Bitcoin, Western Union, or PayPal Friends and Family, IF a middleman is used, as those payment methods are not safe otherwise.

9. If the user has no feedback, ALWAYS use a middleman to be safe.
10. PayPal Goods & Services is always the safest way to buy an Instagram account as both parties are protected via PayPal.

Pricing Guideline:

11. A good guideline for prices on Instagram Accounts is roughly $1,000-10,000$ per 100,000 followers depending on the niche. That means on the cheap end, a 1m account would cost at least $10,000. Noone will EVER sell a real 1m account for less than that. The Content, Niche, Engagement, and Growth are all factors that determine the price of an account, but almost every single deal that seems too good to be true, will be fake.

12. To be on the safe side, you can always get on a call with the Seller before the transaction and ask them various questions about the account. If the Seller at any point refuses to answer any questions or seems pushy to sell the account, do not engage.

Most people get scammed as they are pushed by the Seller to complete the transaction as fast as possible. Please always go through this checklist before thinking of sending a stranger money.

Special thanks to @VALKYRON for creating this guide.

Check Account History Data:

Once you log into the IG account, go to the Profile Settings page and click "Privacy and Security.

1) Check the Former Email Addresses, Phone Numbers and Usernames - This will show you if the seller gave you the original email or a new email and some older info to give you an idea how many times this account has been sold.

Many people use their real emails to register a IG account, so most time the original email will not be included in the sale. You should take a screenshot of this page in case there is ever a problem with the account.

Selling an Instagram Account

For those sellers looking to post their Instagram account for sale. You want to make sure it's ready to be transferred as you as you find a buyer, this way you can save time during this phase.

  • Unlink the Instagram account from everything before you list it for sale.
  • Once you have found a buyer, you should disable all security settings.
Once the seller has prepared the account for transfer and received payment, they can then transfer the account to the buyer who will then re-secure the account using their own information.

Known Tricks of Scammers to steal accounts:

1. The will ask the Seller to change the Account's Email to a random Email and send them a screenshot. They will ask the Seller to change the account's email so that the account can't be 'retrieved', but in reality they want to create that email and hack the account.
2. The Buyer will demand to pay with a bank wire and send over "proof" of having sent the payment and the money having left their account. This is an intimidation method that Scammers use to guilt you into handing over the account because they have "already paid". They will say that the money will arrive tomorrow, but they want the account's login information before then.
3. The Buyer wants the login information of the account but insist on the fact that the Seller can keep the og-emails information to be able to retrieve the account if the deal goes wrong. In this scenario the Scammer will just change the Account's name and retrieving the account with the sign-up email will be an enormous hassle.
4. The Buyer sends over "proof of funds" by sending the Seller a video of a fake PayPal balance or some fake bank statements. Only scammers have ever sent me videos of their $40,000 PayPal balance or their bank account.
5. They will ask the Seller's percentage of iOS and Android Users. No website can determine how many iOS users on account has, so any person claiming to be able to do that, is phishing.

NEW PHISHING WEBSITE THAT SCAMMERS USE:
The Scammer will send you a link to the popular app called Iconosquare, but instead of using iconosquare.com they will send over a link that will lead you to a phishing website called iconosquare.pro

I will attach pictures of all of these scenarios in the coming week :)

Stay Safe!

The only way to ever FULLY secure an account is to get access to the email the account was created with, often referred to as signup email or og email. That email is the master key to the account :)

im also interested in this answer, i just bought an account on ebay and changed the email in it but somehow the account was recovered by the seller im guessing and changed to a different email so i can't log into it anymore :(

This is the best option and I think any salesperson should include, with the sale of the instagram account, the mail account.
But I have a question: what do we do if it tries to recover the mail account?

Actually, PayPal Goods & Services DON'T protect the seller, only the buyer because it's an intangible product. You should update that.

it does protect the seller if you have compelte documentation of the conversation as well as a contract on hand. Been in that situation and PayPal sided with me. It's an annoying platform, but can be made safe if you follow procedure :)
