Square Enix has again taken action against Final Fantasy XI cheaters, banning more than 11,500 accounts, in turn, removing roughly 5 billion Gil from in-game circulation. The mass crackdown has affected users on all platforms (PC, PS2 & Xbox 360), as administrators targeted a range of illegal activities:

Use of 3rd-party tools to enhance character movement (approx. 1,100 accounts banned)

Use of 3rd-party tools to bypass game mechanics (e.g., timing of ability use) (approx. 6,400 accounts banned)

Engaging in Real Money Trading (RMT) (approx. 4,000 accounts banned)

Actually about half of the gil that came off the market was RMT gil, I know on shiva alone they have eliminated most of the ground HNM RMT, if you look for them you will see they are not there and that shiva gil is not in stock on most of the sites, thsale, ige, etc. SE needs to be even more ruthless while doing this

Basically... SE has to show to some attempt to remedy the problem or they will eventually be accountable for the actual dollar amount that the items sell for should anything happen to the items. The buying and selling of virtual goods market is too large to try to eliminate. They need to just make it safer and better, even if they make a few dollars off it.
