Tips on giving out too much information

I am currently in the process of selling my wow account and i know a lot of people prefer to pay through paypal.
Some requests i've been getting were that they are willing to send me the payment, and they request that i give them the account name, password and change the e-mail.

We agreed that once the payment is cleared and received, then i hand over the Secret question and answer w/cd key

What are the disadvantages if any of giving them the e-mail before hand.

Also am i able to reset the e-mail if all i have is the Secret answer, (ie, they changed the account pw, e-mail, and contact info)?

technically, you can give them EVERYTHING that they can verify e.g the last name using parental controls under account management.

however, your account is 100% protected if you do not give them the registered last name until the money has cleared / is in your bank / a paypal dispute can no longer be filed due to the 40 days being over.

seeing that blizzard has now implemented a system where the last name of the registered owner is blanked out, there is no way for him to know this - worse to worse, you can call blizzard to recall the account (he will be missing the one piece he needs).

just as an afterthought, give them full control, secret answer, email change, password and account name upon receiving payment from them. just hold off on the last name until the moeny is "safe" (you decide and come to an agreement with him when)

however, seeing that markee is rife with scammers, you will have to verify that you will not take his money, wait till the dispute period is over, then walk away with the account and money. allow him to verify your address, phone number, scan of ID etc if it sets his mind to rest.

that being said, remember to verify him as well or get him to use Western union for more seller security if he seems dodgy but intent on purchasing.

Now my next conflict is that i followed ur advice by requesting the invoice, and we agreed that i mail the account info.

Our transaction went thru, however over night, i got an e-mail from paypal that the buyer was not an "authorized" buyer. as of right now, the payment is on hold while paypal verifies if the buyer is legit.

Does this mean the buyer backed out of the deal and cancelled the payment?

i do not think so. in this case, paypal suspects that the buyer may have been either the original owner, authorized to make such a payment or simply the payment has not yet been cleared with the credit card company thus it is on hold.

i suggest that you wait a few days and see what happens. bottom line, have you mailed the information yet via TRACKED mail? if you have not yet, then notify the buyer that you will NOT send anything until the payment clears and paypal verifies it.

if you have sent it, nothing will go wrong even if he gets his hands on it, as you have the last name (just change the password) and tell him he will get the information when it clears.

bottom line, there is a chance he is using a STOLEN paypal account, so exercise caution (make sure that you have the money in your BANK and NOT in paypal and it has been 40 days (he cannot open a dispute then - or get him to open one then close it right now so he cannot do so later) THEN give him the last name : )

Ok so as of right now, paypal told me not to send the buyer any "goods" until they clear the payment. I have tried to notify the buyer that i have no intent of giving her any info until the the payment is cleared, however she does not reply to any of my IMs nor does she answer her phone.

Lets just so tho, that If i did send her the package of information and i tracked it and insured it, what would paypal do? Would the buyer be forced to buy it, or would my account be lost?

paypal would not do anything as virtual items are not covered as part of their buyer protection. i have this feeling in my gut from what you are telling me that this is a stolen paypal account.

even is paypal does do something you can still dispute it. technically, you shipped and insured the package and it has to be signed on receipt in order for the buyer to collect it.

in short, this proves that you held your end of the bargain. change your password / account information now before it arrives. paypal will not call up blizzard to verify that the account works, they only care that you sent the "good" - aka the cds.

in short, if you want, you can walk away with the money and account : )

I apologize in advance for this seemingly stupid question, but if you use pay pal to accept your payment wouldn't the buyer see your last name anyway? Or if not then with the certified mail sent with the account info?

Yes they would but as some people are not the OO of the account it could not be the name on the account that is on the paypal
