Step By Step Guide on how to Trade accounts Safe and Secure
Hello Markee Dragon, I am making this guide as a way to help people who have not had alot of experience in trading World of Warcraft accounts. This is a method that has had great success for myself and others in the past. This is by NO WAY a complete, 100% fool proof method, but it is a very good start. This may be modified to fit your unique trade or situation. I am trying to make this known to people to prevent scammers from being able to take advantage of new users and keep this site running clean and legit.
I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IF YOU USED THIS GUIDE AND STILL GOT SCAMMED!
As traders we must all realize the inherent risk in what we do, and the more we do it the larger the percentage becomes that we will be scammed at least one time.
A Few Things To Watch Out For
Speed Traders: This is what i call people who have had an account for less than a day and trade it off right away. It seems people become more addicted to trading than actually playing the game. These accounts have a greater chance of being recalled by an owner who has "traders remorse" or the account was scammed to begin with so the trader wants it out of his hands ASAP.
The Rush: People will contact you in an instant message with things like "OMG i have exactly what you want, but you must act now!!!11 i have 21 other IM's asking for my toon, but i want yours, lets trade now!!! hurry before its gone". When you hurry is when you dont get what you want and the bigger chance of being taken for a ride. Also, if something seems to good to be true, it probably is.
The First Timer: This is that guy who uses the "i dont have a MD account" or "I'm using my friends computer". It is quick, easy and free to make a Markee account and it's the first line of deffence against scammers. It will tell you their current account status (banned, scammer), it will give you a chance to see feedback (in rep pages or the Trust Who rep) and it will give you a way to search user names and other user names who have used that same IP. ALWAYS ASK THEM TO POST IN YOUR THREAD!
THE STEPS TO A SAFE TRADE
1. Talk to the person in instant message to get a feel to their personality. If you have an IM logger USE IT! Don't rush and let them rush you. Your gut instinct is usually right.
2. Check armories. This is a decent way to start off seeing if you even like the toon. If you don't like it you wont waste either of your time. A simple "No thanks, not what im looking for" is an easy and polite way to end the transaction here. Be careful of links to key logger site's. I never click the link they give me. I Copy and Paste it in a different window so it gives me a chance to see where the link goes to (at the bottum of I.E. it shows you the path) I'm sure there is a more high tech way to do this, but I am not a computer tech or hacker elite, so, if this can be modified please let the community know.
3. Ask to see each others toon in game. This should be a no brainer, but I am saying it anyways. Have them show you item sets, flying mounts and open a trade window with them and have them put their gold in there. (not to trade but the game will only let you put up to the amount of gold you have in the trade window)
4. Talk to each other again. Make sure this is something you both like and agree on. This will help cut down on recalls. If a person seems reluctant don't trade them at this time. They obviously have some doubts about it.
5. Make sure you both have all the account info you both want. If you want and have full info, but he has only log in and pw, don't trade! This is where alot of scams start. And dont let the trade start only to find out afterwards that they don't have sqa and log off with your toon and theirs. Or trade you for your toon that you don't have sqa and log off (EEPS!).
The Trade (assuming you have full info)
1. Swap log in and pw first. This is done because if they log off you can recall with the pw reset feature since you still have sqa, phone number and email. While logged in go to the Paid Character Transfer section and make sure the toon is there.
2. Once you are logged into your new account change the password. Tell them you are doing this and tell them to do the same.
3. Now change the email. You change the email and phone number on your new account and send the confirmation. Then each of you copy and paste the confirmation link to each other so you can both confirm it by logging in with your new pw. This stops them from being able to put a fake email that starts with the same letter as the one told them to put it under. This still protects you because you have sqa and full name so you can call Blizzard. (more on that at the end of this guide)
4. Now get the sqa (secret question and answer). I like to make sure that they give me the question, but not everyone remembers this, so if needed tell them the question. You can find the question and check the answer by going to the Parental Control feature in your new acct. If this feature is already active you will need to do a pw reset from the website. It will ask you for the phone number and email (the ones you just put it under) and the sqa. If it works it will send you a new pw to your email. If it doesnt work you are still protected because they do not know the full name on the account.
5. Get the full name. This is the only step that cannot be checked through email or the account itself. The only way to check the full name is when you call Blizzard, if there is a way please correct this. Although you can see the first name, so if the name is Mark H**** and they say the name on the account it Susan Pachecco, you know its a lie.
6. Log into your new account and check things out. I disable all mods this first time so i can see everything without all the pop ups. Make sure the gold is still there, see arena points and what not. See if you get any in game wispers of "YOU @$%&& YOU STOLE MY ______"
7. Say thanks for the good smooth trade, offer to leave each other feedback. And keep them on your friends or buddy list. Always save the chat logs.
Optional Step 8. This works if the acct name is CJONES44 and you see Charles J**** as the account name, and the transfer is up. MOVE IT! Spend the 40 bucks to buy a new Battlechest and transfer the toon to your new account. All that needs to match is the full name on the 2 accounts. You can transfer to a new account and server with one fee ($25 from Blizzard). This costs a little but saves you alot! since now you have all info and no one else does!
Calling Blizzard
If you need to call Blizzard for any reason on your new account. They will ask the phone number on the acct and your name. GIVE THEM THE NAME OF THE NEW ACCOUNT YOU HAVE, not your own real name! You are now that person to blizzard. They will then ask for the account name (log in name), once that is given they access your account and ask for the secret question's answer. When all of this is given you can change anything on the account.
I usually say that my daughter and her friend were playing around on the account and changed some info so i need to make sure it's all correct.
Now if you're calling Blizzard to recall an account that was scammed from you GIVE THE NAME THAT WAS ON THAT ACCOUNT!, try to avoid saying anything that will allude to the account being comprimised or scammed/hacked, this is because blizzard will flag and investigate the account, this is when you need to fax in a picture ID and CD Key...once this happens it's usually a wash, Tiger420 seems to have some success in helping to get accounts back.
I hope this will help a few people from getting scammed and give some new people help in safe trading. Like i said, I'm not and expert or a site admin or anything, if this can be modified or made better please do so.
Thanks, Prisoner1167
