I would have been flashing big warning at the fact that he wanted you to open a file. That's a sure sign of a virus/keylogger.

Sounds like you where setting yourself up for a keylog or virus. Beware of what you open just b/c you may have an anti-virus protector doesn't mean anything because some keylogging tools are undetectable from your programs. Just an FYI if you don't know the person Be at YOUR OWN RISK of opening or taking a file.
