Official game representatives posing as buyers

Hey all,

Long time MMORPG player, first time seller here.

Basically, I have never sold an account before, so I am a bit unsure of what to look for in a message.

My main worry is that representatives from the game I am selling an account for may PM me on this posing as an interested buyer, asking for certain details so they can try and determine who I am and perhaps take action on my account.

I've had quite a lot of interest in my account, but several messages are from posters who are very recently registered and only have one post. These are the people I am most paranoid about, especially as they seem to ask for the most information and use somewhat stock phrases.

So yeah, has anyone ever experienced official representatives from games posing as a buyer? If so, do you have any tips on how to spot it?

Thanks a lot

It's pretty unlikely that anyone from your game's staff will attempt to purchase your account,
However you will notice a lot of interest from first time posters, As we do get new users to the forums every day.

Just keep easily identifiable information out of your thread and only share it with a potential buyer who has genuine interest in your account.

You can contact me for middleman services if you need help with the actual transaction, Or PM me with any questions you may have.

Thanks very much for the quick reply!

It's not that I am worried they will actually try to purchase the account, what I meant was that they may pose as a fake buyer in order to try and identify me, and prevent the sale by banning my account or something. THis could quite easily be done without any personal details, for example a certain in-game currency called Destiny Points in LoTRO is almost certainly unique to each player (my total, for example, could be 356,682). Although it seems like an innocent question, it could probably be used to identify me as I know Turbine have access to that kind of information.

Just give them a ~43,000 points. No need to give them the EXACT number.

And honestly...I think most of these companies have ebtter things to do with their time than spend 20-30 minutes trying to find the one person selling an account.

Well, they asked for a screenshot. Of course it could be just that they want solid proof, but it did raise my suspicions a bit.

You're probably right, I just wanted to know if it was common or something to look out for, having had no experience with this kind of thing before.

THanks for the reply :)

if people ask for a screenshot u can easily provide one but black out important information like character name/server etc

What Chops said.

I've posted more than a few accounts for sale, screenshots of characters and accounts.. I just cut out any identifiable information (account names, maybe character names, ect). You shouldn't have to worry.
