Ok guys,

So i consider myself an experienced trader, but something happened today that i was not expecting at all, and do not understand how it happened.
I traded for an account, and xfered that character to a new account. So i am the only one that knows the sq-a, account name. Now the person i traded with only knows the first and last name on AN account. Not mine, cause he does not know the account name. So i tried logging on, and the account was banned. Checked the email and this is what they said.....

------
Greetings,

This is a notification regarding the World of Warcraft account you are using. The account contains incomplete or inaccurate billing contact information which is a violation of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. The account has been disabled until the contact information has been properly updated. If you use a credit card to subscribe, it has been removed so you are not charged while the account is disabled. Please keep this email until you have regained account access.
-------

So i wrote back, not knowing what the hell had just happened and the other email they wrote me was this...

----
You are receiving this email as you had expressed that your password was changed without your knowledge and/or concern that your account might have been affected in a detrimental way. Below is information that should be useful to assure your computer's security and to assist with any related in-game issues on your account...
----

So if someone can explain to me what happened, that would be great. I repeat, NO ONE has sq-a, or the account name, and only the person i traded with has the first and last name (100% sure).

Thanks,

Pandabutt

looks like the orginal owner had them trace the character to the knew account and prob said it was hacked, blizzard is dumb they beleive anything. If your OO you will ALWAYS get your account back. No matter what you do. =(

I may be wrong but my friend ACTUALLY got hacked and the Xfered off and they put his char back on his account.

Also if the last name didnt match it wouldnt of started the XFER so last name was right. First name DONT HAVE TO BE SAME b/c few times i changed first name. But the first name shows on the account MGT page.

i had the same situation. I traded with a guy xfered the chars to a new account but had to use the guys last name to make it work. And a few days later logged in and account was banned. Atleast you got an email from blizz i didnt even get anything.

I think we're all overlooking the fact that he's not the OO, he clearly said he transferred the toon to a new account after trading for it.

So yes, it looks like the OO called up Blizz and had them trace the toon from the original account to its new one.

The account will stay banned until they can feel comfortable in knowing who the OO is. That means filling out all of their information on the account retrieval sheet and sending in a photocopy of your ID.

A decent digital scanner and some photoshop will guarantee you that you have an ID with the account name on it, if you catch my drift.

I also suggest you change the lastname on the account, which can be done by you conveniently getting married. Not in real life mind you, but the same ID with the same first name as on the account, just a changed last name. Blizz will not ask you to send in marriage licenses -- I know, I've done it.

These are all of the steps I take when trading. Some not as major, some are. If I intend on keeping the account for personal use, all precautions are covered. If I'll be unloading it 5m after I bought/traded for it, less are taken.

I also tend to buy only from OO and require that they have the cd keys and cd still. Why? B/c there's a nice little program floating around that can pull the cdkeys from the installation files which I can then verify with the ones they gave me. While it doesn't 100% guarantee that they're OO, it does guarantee that they have all of the OO's information. Either way, it's just an extra level of security.

bear in mind that although it is illegal and i am in no way suggesting it, some users have been known to fake public notaries and IDs in the past.

one trick i use without breaking the law is to locate someone in real life with a similar first and last name (check your local high school or friends)... if the OO has a common name, theres a good chance you will know someone who knows someone...

This is not a hack. Blizzard has an official page where you can claim that your account was stolen, and a character transfered off. You can access this form here if blizzard finds adequate proof that you did not have access to your character when it was transfered, they will reverse it, and im not 100% sure but I think they might ban the unauthorized account as well, this may be what happened to you.
