Anyone who remembers my old ticket might be interested in knowing that after taking this to "traffic" court, the judge ruled in my favor and suspended the cop for further review.


Personally, I feel slightly bad for him being suspended. My father being a officer and my grandfather being a police chief and me planning on signing up. (My military contract is up so... yeah.)

Cops are supposed to lead by example. And in many ways, being overly obstructive and harsh isn't an example that I'm sure the court and the police station wants him to represent.

Quick question: Did he at least have the respect to show up?

Fantastic. I too would not feel too great about having him suspended, but just know that a $70+ fine for your violation is out of this world. That's not the way to effectively *teach* someone a lesson as it is just too harsh a punishment, that's a ticket for someone going 5-10 over the speed limit, not turning over an extra lane. He should have given you a warning, if at all, and spent more of his own time keeping the streets safe from drivers who are knowingly breaking the law and putting others at risk of harm.
 
The reason for suspension was because upon further review of his desk cam and such they discovered there was no physical way he could have seen the street I should have turned in to so he couldn't justify stopping me in the first place. For all he knew I could have turned into the right lane but did a quick lane change.

At least thats how I understood it.
