Skype's latest version, released 15 days ago (Jan 10), has completely prevented communication between people who are not in each other's contacts list.
The new version completely prevents you from sending a message to a non-contact. The text field for input is grayed out and a notice displayed in it's place, "Messaging disabled until request is accepted".
Also, those using the newest version will not receive messages from non-contacts, even if the other person is using an older version and can still send messages. Those messages will simply never arrive.
This also ignores the privacy option "Allows IMs from...". Even if both have it set to "anyone", if one person is using the new version, communication is still not possible until a contact request is accepted. It's unknown whether this is a bug or if they just forgot to remove the option from settings...
If it's here to stay, guess I'll finally be leaving this piece of junk that microsoft keeps destroying...
