Skype's latest version, released 15 days ago (Jan 10), has completely prevented communication between people who are not in each other's contacts list.

The new version completely prevents you from sending a message to a non-contact. The text field for input is grayed out and a notice displayed in it's place, "Messaging disabled until request is accepted".

Also, those using the newest version will not receive messages from non-contacts, even if the other person is using an older version and can still send messages. Those messages will simply never arrive.

This also ignores the privacy option "Allows IMs from...". Even if both have it set to "anyone", if one person is using the new version, communication is still not possible until a contact request is accepted. It's unknown whether this is a bug or if they just forgot to remove the option from settings...

If it's here to stay, guess I'll finally be leaving this piece of junk that microsoft keeps destroying...

U`r absolutely right, The integrity mate, they ruined the program, lately since their last update add-requests dont pass through aswell, it bugs a lot, i have it opened on 3 devices almost 24/7 and must constantly check if i have a new message or add, because it doesnt show up anymore either led blinking on phone/tablet, notification on any of them etc.Nothing.

Sometimes i get notification on PC, but not on tablet and phone and viceversa, thats just sad, used to be very good and stable...

The only thing to trick it and be able to get in touch with whoever added u is to tell that person to call u so u receive a missed call, that way u see indeed the add request and the message left.

At this moment its a piece of crap which bugs alot, too bad it got at this point, will prolly have to move all business to discord or something else if they dont fix these bugs...

Regarding Skype, i've already been inactive from Skype for atleast a half year now. Glad i haven't been so active with Skype lately now when i'm reading this so i've kinda been able to avoid meeting these problems ''face to screen''.

I only use a messaging app called LINE now to communicate with my contacts. It's probably not so widely known in Europe or America but it works smooth without any downhills.

If there is something i want from EpicNPC then i can use the in-build chat here which i doesn't have anything negative against.

Any good alternatives to Skype?

i'm thinking of moving to discord. easy to set up, if people don't have it they can just use web client instead of downloading it, and it's fairly popular (i think?). if anyone else has other options, would greatly appreciate it

Btw making a new skype account solved all of the mentioned problems.

I guess having too many contacts does make a big difference. I'll probably be changing skype accounts every 6 months or so from now on.

Better to lose all contacts every 6 months, than to lose so many customers due to their inability to make a chat program that works properly. :(
