Hey there.

Currently I own a 3070 and I am wondering if it's worth upgrading to a 40xx when they release.

Any opinions about it? Should I wait for a couple years? I am mostly gaming on 2k but a lot of VR as well.

Thanks :)

While the resolution informed is definitely one important factor to answer your question, so is target FPS and which games you are playing and/or looking to play.
If everything is working as expected right now, there shouldn't be a reason to upgrade.
If you are looking for more FPS, moving to higher definition displays or higher quality settings in games, then you should start considering your upgrade.

Honestly, going for 4k is not what I want for at least the next year. Currently everything is working as intended, but I feel with the new DLSS 3.0 coming with rtx 40's series it's going to be a no brainer for everything.

I think performance target can be easily achieved in every generation. What mostly makes people interested in buying new generation of cards are the new tech and features locked behind each of them.
So, sounds like you may not need it, but you may want it, which is completely understandable. Though you may want to hold a while to see if prices drop or until you get a sweet deal, since you aren't in a rush anyway.

This generation of gpus is a total miss by both team. Consumption is way too high for not so big performance gain. 3070 is still fine, wait for the next generation of gpus.
