For you iPhone or Android users, there is an application I demand that you all download and install. It's called ShopSavvy - Click to download on your computer and send over to your phone or install it straight from your phone!
Now for those of you who have never heard of this application... here are the basics. You can either scan the barcode on a product you are looking to buy, or search the name. Once you have identified the product (and this works for MOST electronics, consumer goods, etc.) it will search your local area (using your GPS) for competitor pricing as well as internet pricing.
What is this good for? Well, many stores, BestBuy, for example, offer to match the price of their local competitors or major shopping websites. Today I would have spent $400 on electronics and software but was able to have BestBuy match my prices down to $300.
Now I can't speak for everyone, but it amazed me how I was able to get away with $100 more in my pocket than most uninformed consumers. We have anti-trust in the US for a reason, why not take advantage!? I had a few people turn heads when I was able to mark off 50% of the price on Windows 7 Home Edition simply by showing them an Amazon price from my phone.
My phone has more than paid for itself in savings for those of you distraught by the pricing of smartphones. They truly make the world a smaller place.
