Hi all,

I sold an account here recently on Epic, everything has been fine and all is well :)..

Thankfully choosing a verified long term member paid off as I could of easily have gotten into a bad situation, when I sold my account (World of Tanks) to him I remembered to do all the important things necessary to protect myself, all but 1. That's the point I'm trying to make here, all it takes is 1 oversight.

So what exactly happened?

When you are buying virtual goods through many sites these days with PayPal specifically you will often get prompted when checking out if you want to set future payments to go through without entering login details every time, you click "Purchase now" and that's it.. 99€ gone without entering a login. That's ok when you are you, but you sell the account to some guy online and the next thing he goes now to buy with PayPal some goods and you haven't cancelled this feature then it will take 99€ straight from your account no questions asked. So I had 99.99€ taken from my account with the click of someone else.

In my case I went straight in as I knew right away what had happened and cancelled the preapproved payment, unauthorized said payment just incase something else was up (as @Aria Company has said below, be very careful about doing any form of unauthorising/chargeback if the account will be banned as a result, in my case I knew it would lock up until the amount was paid again and then unlock with no other consequences) and changed my password. I contacted the guy on Skype right away and we figured it out there and then that it was a simple mistake, again the perks of dealing with established members on the site or at least verified. I was lucky, he sent me the 99.99€ and it's all cleared up (I paid the fees for the payment because in my head it's a small price to pay for a mistake I made) .. see below for details how to check who can take money from your PayPal.

Make sure before you sell anything to anyone you always check that there isn't an ACTIVE link to said company, go into them and cancel them.

Hopefully someone will benefit from this knowledge and if not well, at least it never happened to anyone again who saw this thread.

Regards :)

Should also note that chargebacking a payment like that will usually get the game account banned, which may make you liable if the new owner decides to file a dispute against you.

Hi Aria :),

Not sure if you mean a dispute in PayPal ie.. chargeback you then for buying the account with PayPal in the first place or a dispute on the forums but I think you mean on Epic right?:

Where Epic is concerned, this case actually got my attention as this happened very similar to my situation but not exactly it: https://www.epicnpc.com/threads/114...-buyer-used-my-paypal-to-pay-for-ingame-items

So indeed one must be careful because if the account would be banned as a result of unauthorising that's another thing because in the above thread the buyer was to pay the seller back and then it was decided that the seller should give the account back..if that account was banned who knows what way Epic would go with it, I will edit the top thread to explain further that I knew in my case unauthorising that payment locks the account for the money which can be paid again by the person logging in without any other consequence rather than the account being banned. Blizzard is another company who like Wargaming (the company I was unauthorising/chargebacking back against) will lock the account until the amount is paid again but I'm sure other games just ban them. So as one can see it's very dependent on the case but ofc in any event, communication with your buyer is the best way forward straight after going in and removing that active preapproved payment.

Thanks @Aria Company

Interesting case.
Most companies won't unban accounts which have CBed even if they've paid the amount back in full due to the hassle of CB fees. I remember a particular case in FFXIV where a girl's ex CBed all the payments he made for her subscription and they wouldn't unban her even with a shitload of evidence.
