Hey guys, so I am looking to get a laptop to have for internet, email, and the occasional gaming on it. I would like to get a mac because I've never had one and it seems like something I would be interested in trying out.

I've been looking at a couple re-certified macs on newegg and I am trying to decide between two of them and would just like some input on them both. The one I am leaning towards (once it becomes available) is the mac with the nvidia card in it. That mac seems better equipped but less money so that's why I am a little confused.

Newegg.com - Recertified: Apple MacBook Pro MA610LL/A-R Notebook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz 15.4" Wide XGA+ 2GB Memory 120GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

Newegg.com - Recertified: Apple MacBook Pro PCW-MA896LL/A-R Notebook Intel Core 2 Duo T7700(2.40GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA+ 2GB Memory 160GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (The one I am leaning towards)

some input would be awesome. From what I am used to PC wise the second one seems better off spec wise but I could be wrong.

None of the applications you will be using on the computer are things that Mac 'specialize' in. I for one wouldn't ever touch a Mac, I've built computers my entire life and that's how I always will do it. The only thing Macs are generally good for is a bit of general use and video editing.

Ya I realize what macs are good at and I have always built my PC's too I would just like to try a mac out and those are my two options. Just wanted someone to review them both.

I've used them at school and other places and they're a LOT more user friendly. Not only that but I'm pretty sure Mac has lonnnnng warranties on all their equipment so even if it breaks you'll be set to get a new one. While I don't know how well their support system works I'd be willing to bet it's pretty flawless, a lot of people love Macs. The only real use I can see from it is editing software (video, graphic, etc.) and general use (I stated both of these above). But, in the end it's all about what you prefer, and how much you plan on using it.

If you want to try it out, go for it. It's just for general use, you're not going to be running a bunch of stuff on it and I doubt you'd need to spend $1000~ to build a Laptop for the purposes you have. The only real thing you lose is your PC integrity, which I'm sure your friends will give you a lot of crap about (I know I always give my friends crap about their Macs).

Decided to order the new HP Envy 14. Scheduled delivery is tomorrow! From all the reviews it has similar aesthetics as a mac book so I am pleased :)
