RIAA wins big in LimeWire lawsuit | Media Maverick - CNET News
LimeWire Gets Pulped by Judge in Peer-to-Peer Music Piracy Ruling - DailyFinance

For those of you who do not know, LimeWire was recently hit big time with providing a means to copy-right infringement. Apparently what crippled their defense is their reluctance to try to create a filter for copy-righted material being shared via their P2P database. For now, the major industries are seeking $150,000 per infringement, which will total around a $450 million tag as of now.

I'm not sure exactly how the end is going to play out, there have been rumors that it is going to shut down operations this coming summer. I'm also unsure about what is going to happen to their CEO, as LimeWire is an LLC, but the judges believe that hiding behind an LLC should no longer be legally available due to the severe volume and intention of the infringements.

I also stumbled upon the list of their management.

The Team - Lime Wire

I was shocked that their top executives come from some of the most prestigious schools in the country, some of which push for the highest level of business ethics (such as Wharton), yet these graduates obviously had no problem working as a team in an industry plagued with illegal activity which has cost other industries (especially the music industry) hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues.

Discuss!

Anything that costs RIAA money is a-ok with me.

maybe then artists will get a better deal.

Things like limewire do not cost music companys billions of dollars. If anything it makes them money due to people finding out about the bands and how good they are.Suing your consumer base will not help you. The people who are "stealing" the music are not out there to bankrupt a company and make them suffer but to listen and enjoy it and when people enjoy it, they spread it to others around them.

If anything people have a RIGHT to download movies/games/music, Because there are no laws protecting US from company's that just make a cd/movie/game for a quick profit. They hype it and say it's amazing then it turns out to be a big piece of ****.

Really? Don't be so naive... nothing shocking about it.

Lol, hm, this seems like bad information to me. What because it's a hot topic subject as it pertains to the music industry the judges feel it's only right to hold the ceo personally liable? That would be a first.

This whole Limewire vs. RIAA case just seems redundant to me in all honesty. The music industry is doing just fine. We've been downloading music for about 15 years now globally, If this case has any real motive it's for a cash grab. Limewire is just 1 of thousands of ways to download music "illegally". If they are shut down it won't change a thing.

limewire must not be feeling too good.

One of the many reasons I love being a Canadian. They let you download music, they dont care if you download anything else. :)
