Do accounts ever sell for the spending price?

Hi,

My story is, I whaled in Genshin, somewhere around $10k spent, several C6 limited 5* characters etc, but at this point I'm not enjoying the game anymore. However my greed keeps me playing daily because the money I've spent on the game kinda makes me feel obligated to continue developing my account and characters. So one day I realised that would possibly manage to quit if I could recover my spendings by selling my account and this is how I ended discovering EpicNPC.

But looking at the threads posted here a typical whale account is being offered best case for like 1/4 of its spending price (assuming average gacha luck) so listing mine with the desired "full price" feels like being out of the market. (I'll sill list anyway, but not sure it could work).

Is it typical for gacha games in general and for Genshin in particular that the aftermarket value is always such a heavy discount compared to initial spendings? Or could I be missing something trying to understand the market? Like in theory, if some characters are quite popular & desirable but their reruns may be too far in the future, someone might be willing to spend even more to get them?

Thanks.

Prices for accounts go way below what was invested into them, most falling somewhere between 15% and 35% thought it really depends on the game. So no, they never sell for the spending price. :(

Spending money in game and trying to sell it is not a good investment at all. No matter what the game you'll never get that back, some games worse then others.

You’re experiencing sunk cost fallacy for sure. As the others mentioned, prices are always lower than the invested amount. It’s what makes the market very popular, as buyers don’t need to spend as much time or resources to get what they want. On the other hand, sellers usually just want to quit the game and recoup a portion of their spending, which is definitely better than nothing. Sad reality, but games are for entertainment anyways and not for investment.

With online games based on a gacha system there is never a chance for you to cut even and recoupe all the money spent. I must point out, that you get the chance to experience a unfavorable game system to its full potential at the fraction of it’s cost while being somewhat competitive within the game. Though that would be the say, if Genshin Impact even had competitive aspects to it. Of course you can always play those types of games as a "Free to play" player, which probably down the line would be the better choice for your wallet but you never would be able to beat a whale in their arsenal.

The only market where you can turn a profit out of simply playing the game and would come out with a significant positive balance are most of the time MMOs, since the entry costs are either naught or barely anything really. But it requires and an immense amount of knowledge to be efficient and a somewhat decent PC, so you don’t run end game content on 16 FPS. But at the end, I think regardless of what type of game it is everybody is a winner to some degree, while the most goes to buyers.
