Computer Problems..

So I recently moved, when I arrived at my new home I set up my computer only to have it "die" on me. When I plug the power cord in, it automatically turns itself on. All the fans will run as normal only to have it kill the power after 10 seconds. My mother board has a row of green to red lights that all light up as it trys to start up. Once the power cuts out, it tries to do it again and again and again till I remove the power cord from back. I've opened it up and checked all the connections/cleaned any dust out. There is only one sound that it makes and I believe it comes from the PSU, a dull 2 click.

Could my PSU be shot? Something wrong with my motherboard? Do you like unicorn in a can?

Any suggestions are appreciated, as of now I have a very expensive door stop.

Specs:

Intel Core i5 750(2.66GHz)
64 bit Quad-Core Processor
6GB DDR3
500 GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
600w Power Supply

That's what it sounds like. I'm thinking your power supply is fried out.

The click you are referring to, is it a beep or an actual click? When your system boots and the fans and everything comes on it's really likely you have a electrical short (Stray screws, pieces of metal, Cords that lost their coating) What I'd do is push it side to side and see if you hear anything rolling around.

If nothing, try looking at all your cords, if any of them look usual (Cut open/frayed/etc) replace them.

To test your power supply, use a multimeter or go to a computer/hardware store (if you have any) and buy a psu tester . If you don't have any stores that sell them here.

I'd also try to reseat everything, like data/power cables/expansion cards

If the fans turn on, I would think the power supply is getting power to your motherboards fan headers. My first guess is RAM, that stuff can just die out of nowhere. After that, it could be teh graphics card but I doubt it. Does your motherboard manual come with an error diagnostic section or was this computer purchased from a boutique?

Since the only thing that has changed in the equation is the house, have you tried plugging it in in a different part of the house? Perhaps you have a bad socket.

I'm a computer genius, I know! =(

I'll look in the maunal when I have time. I have tried several differnet plugs in the house to no avail. Also have tried booting seperate times with 1, 2, and 3 sticks of RAM in, nothing changed. I'll take it to the local computer supply shop and see if he can diagnose the problem.

Took it to the local comp shop. After trying a new PSU, removing all RAM sticks, taking out the video card, and taking out the motherboard.... it was a bad power button cord. So he switched the reset button and the power button cords and it works fine. What a headache.

The wire where it connects into the motherboard was somehow not stable, and it kept wanting to disconnect and reconnet. So now my reset button is my new power button and the power button is disconnected. I think I get the best of the worst scenarios on this one.
