3x 1440p Monitors - looking for GPU upgrade for this very specific scenario

Looking for some feedback.

I'm currently running 3x 1440p monitors, 2 through Dual DVI and one through DP.
Current GPU is a single Radeon R9 290X with 8GB VRAM.

From my understanding, you need at least 6GB for this many pixels if you want performance to be acceptable (total pixel count is just a bit more than 4K I believe).
I'm getting between 40 and 60 FPS in most games, but I'd really like to be able to upgrade the GPU so I can get a solid 60+.

I don't have a crazy budget, and the situation is weirdly specific with the 3 monitors that I can't just look at higher performance cards without considering the scenario.

Is anyone running something similar?
I would like your input if you are, and the obvious beast that is the 1080 Ti is outside of my budget unfortunately.
